A meeting was held at the DOST Center 5 in Baku with Beate Andres, the ILO Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, who is visiting our country to participate in the event titled "From Theory to Practice for a Just Transition for All," organized jointly with the International Labour Organization (ILO) within the framework of COP29.
The meeting commenced with the participation of Mikhail Pushkin, the Director of the ILO Moscow Office, and Yashar Hamzayev, the ILO National Coordinator in Azerbaijan. The guests were first introduced to the services provided at the DOST center.
The Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Sahil Babayev, provided information about the DOST Agency and DOST Centers, which were established based on the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated August 9, 2018. He highlighted the advantages and international successes of the DOST concept, initiated by First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, which enables the provision of social services through a "single window" and ensures citizen satisfaction.
Presentations were made for the guests on the DOST concept and the extensive e-governance programs being implemented in the social sector.
The importance of COP29, hosted by our country, and the discussions held within the framework of this event on ensuring a just transition to a green economy were emphasized during the meeting.
Highlighting our country’s successful cooperation with the ILO, S. Babayev emphasized that Azerbaijan has ratified 9 out of the 10 fundamental conventions of the Organization, as well as nearly 60 ILO conventions in total. It was noted that, in collaboration with the ILO, two Decent Work Country Programs have been successfully implemented, and the draft of the next Country Program has been prepared.
The importance of the signing of a cooperation agreement last month between the ILO’s International Training Centre in Turin, Italy, and the Labor Center of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) based in Baku was also highlighted in the development of relations. It was emphasized that cooperation with the ILO is given special importance, particularly in the context of climate change and the just transition in the labor market towards a green economy.
B. Andres expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan's continuous and effective cooperation with the ILO in the process of reforms in the fields of labor and employment. The meeting also focused on discussions regarding future collaboration in the development of green jobs and skills, in relation to the transition to a green economy.
