The "Support for the Socio-Economic Activity of Young People with Disabilities" project held its 2023-2024 report event as part of the Students' Acceleration Program. The event was organized in partnership by the DOST Agency, the State Employment Agency, and UNICEF Azerbaijan.
The event, which took place at the DOST Agency’s administrative building, was memorable for the success stories of beneficiaries, speeches from partners and participants. The Chairman of the Board of the DOST Agency, Farid Mammadov, stated that ensuring employment for young people with disabilities is a matter that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population continuously focuses on. In this regard, the productive collaboration between the DOST Agency, the State Employment Agency, and UNICEF Azerbaijan was one of the key factors that contributed to the success of the project. The Chairman of the Board of the State Employment Agency, Sadig Aliyev, UNICEF Azerbaijan representative Saca Faruq Abdullah, Head of the Department of the State Agency for Vocational Education, Nermin Mammadova Sadikhli, Head of the Department of the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the 4th Industrial Revolution, Khayala Fatullayeva, and other individuals spoke about the importance of the project and the achieved successes.
Later, project participants, including Baku State University graduate Ceyran Gadirova, student of Baku Higher Oil School Azim Azizov, and graduates Hasan Gadirov and Baxish Musazade, shared their success stories.
At the end of the program, 44 participants who successfully completed it were awarded certificates and books as gifts from the National Library of Azerbaijan named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov.
It is worth noting that the beneficiaries of the project are young people with disabilities. The project, which began in October 2023, was implemented based on the "Country Program for 2021-2025" between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as well as the "Social Protection and Child Protection Action Plan for 2023-2024" signed between UNICEF Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population.
The aim of the program is to change stereotypes about disability in society and increase the opportunities for young people with disabilities to participate in public life on an equal footing with others. It also focuses on enhancing their personal and professional skills, enabling a successful transition to the labor market, and contributing to the creation of a dynamic and inclusive society.
As part of the program, awareness-raising activities were carried out regarding the program’s opportunities with 42 higher education institutions and 11 vocational education institutions in Baku and the Absheron district, involving 360 students in the 18-29 age group. Additionally, 17 higher education institutions, 4 vocational education institutions, and more than 70 students and graduates were involved in the project. A total of 44 successful students and graduates from the program were invited to various internship programs and received job offers.
