A provision has been added to the Labor Code to review the minimum wage at least once a year

Under the new law “On Amendments to the Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” approved by President Ilham Aliyev, amendments were made to the Code to ensure the periodic review of the minimum wage, which is considered an effective tool of social protection.

The Head of State also signed a decree amending the Presidential Decree No. 122 of April 15, 1999, “On the Application of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan ‘On Approval, Entry into Force, and Legal Regulation of the Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan,’” in connection with the implementation of the Law No. 354-VIIQD of February 13, 2026, “On Amendments to the Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

In recent years, within the framework of consistent social reforms carried out under the directives of the President, significant increases in social payments have been achieved. These reforms, in particular, allowed the minimum wage to increase by 3.1 times.

The new legislation adds a clause to the Labor Code stipulating that the minimum wage shall be reviewed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, based on the proposals of the Cabinet of Ministers, at least once a year.

This amendment represents another step in aligning national labor legislation with international standards and ensures that the consistent upward trend of the minimum wage, which guarantees a basic standard of living for employees in Azerbaijan, will continue successfully in the future.

It should be noted that the minimum wage, in accordance with the Law “On the Minimum Subsistence Level,” is a social standard establishing the lowest monthly wage for unskilled labor and services. A worker who has worked the monthly norm and fulfilled their labor function cannot receive a monthly wage lower than the state-established minimum wage.

Some technical amendments have also been made to the Code
