The main line of President Ilham Aliyev's policy is ensuring the welfare of the population and as a result of this, social reforms in our country have become consistent. In the last five years, a new social reform package aimed at supporting the well-being of 1.9 million people is being implemented in Azerbaijan.
This opinion was emphasized at the board meeting held at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. The Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev said that the next social reforms implemented in our country with the new decrees and orders signed by President Ilham Aliyev once again confirm that the state of Azerbaijan is a social state and that it has taken important steps to support the welfare of its citizens even in the current crisis situation for the world.
After the Patriotic War, which our country ended with victory, the head of state paid special attention to the social sphere, and during the period when all opportunities were mobilized for the restoration of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur and the further strengthening of our victorious army, further increases in wages and other social payments were ensured.
The minister said that for 3 reform packages covering 4 million people in 2018-2022, an additional 6 billion manats have been allocated annually, and for the current new social reform package, an additional 750 million manats have been allocated annually. He said that, like the previous social reforms, these new social reforms were distinguished by their comprehensiveness, and social payments aimed at people from the most vulnerable population groups, including allowances and pensions of 810 thousand people, were increased once again.
It was noted that at each stage of social reform, the social protection of those groups, the increase of allowances and scholarships addressed to them, as well as the expansion of the scope of these types of social payments, the establishment of new types of social payments are in the foreground. If we compare it with 2018, if the annual funds allocated for social benefits and presidential grants were 300 million manats at that time, this amount has already exceeded 1.5 billion manats, which means a more than 5-fold increase in the funds allocated to that direction.
